The Pension Fund was established on September 1, 1956,
and is a jointly trusteed pension fund, administered by a Board of
Trustees, consisting of five Trustees who are appointed by Teamsters
Joint Council No. 40 and Teamsters Local Union No. 249, and five Trustees
who are appointed by the Contributing Employers. The Trustees administer
the Pension Fund for the purpose of providing such retirement benefits
as are authorized and permitted by law for eligible participants,
pursuant to a schedule of benefits deter-mined from the level of employer
contributions agreed upon as a result of collective bargaining negotiations
between the various Contributing Employers and member Teamsters Local
Unions.
The Pension Fund operates from its Administrative Office
in Pittsburgh, PA, paying monthly pension benefits to over 12,500
retirees, survivors and beneficiaries. The Pension Fund currently
provides a wide and innovative selection of pension benefits to its
retirees, including normal retirement (at age 60); early retirement
(between ages 55 and 60); 25-And-Out and 30-And-Out retirement; vested
retirement; disability retirement; survivor benefits; burial benefits;
and reciprocal benefits with other Teamsters Pension Funds.
